Amazon, Mercado Livre and Tramontina… What makes these companies a benchmark in storage? The answer is simple: investment in innovation.
The level of competition in the market has made companies increasingly concerned about establishing some competitive edge. Many choose to invest in logistics and see companies like Amazon, Mercado Livre and Tramontina as examples. And, in fact, they are. So the question remains: what makes these brands great? reference in storage?
Amazon
There is no way to talk about reference in storage without mentioning Amazon. The company controls a vast network of online marketplaces, from its own sales and streaming platform to small sellers.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the company saw its numbers grow even more. It was on Amazon that 38% of online shopping and the value of its shares rose by more than 60% in 2020 alone.
However, none of this would have been possible without the company's heavy investment in storage and handling. When Amazon first started in 1994, it faced a series of problems in meeting demand. It was only when it developed its supply chain that it became reference in storage.
Innovation is the company’s hallmark, creating never-before-seen, game-changing processes. For example, same-day delivery, drone delivery, and early delivery. This is possible thanks to their focus on customer experience and the use of technology in logistics.
The use of robots is already standard in its distribution centers. The company also has advanced management systems that enhance processes and contribute to decision-making.
Free Market
Present in 12 Latin American countries and in Portugal, Mercado Livre is the leading e-commerce technology company on the continent. In November 2020, the company announced the opening of five new logistics centers in Brazil. There will be three in São Paulo, one in Santa Catarina and one in Minas Gerais.
Of these, four will serve the Fulfillment modality, when the sellers' inventory is fully managed by Mercado Livre. The idea is to reinforce its image as a reference in storage and add 340 thousand square meters to the logistics network of Mercado Envios, the logistics arm of Mercado Livre.
The company's vice president, Leandro Bassoi, said that Mercado Livre is investing in our own technology to manage your entire logistics operation. The new distribution centers are included in the investment announced by Mercado Livre of R$1.4 billion in Brazil throughout 2020. The company plans to expand its delivery fleet and develop new tools to reduce delivery time and cost.
Tramontina
Tramontina is another example of reference in storage which started in Brazil and conquered the world. The company works with a mix of more than 18 thousand items, such as household utensils and agricultural tools. There are 10 manufacturing units, 8 of which are in Rio Grande do Sul, with more than 9 thousand employees. In addition, Tramontina is present in 120 countries.
Its “arm” manufacturing pans, tableware and cutlery was the first company in Rio Grande do Sul to use a fully automated storage for product storage. Tramontina Farroupilha implemented this project in 2001 to resolve the shortfall in shipping capacity in relation to the continuous increase in the factory's sales and production volume.
This investment demonstrates why the company is reference in storage. The site is made up of pallet rack structures self-supporting which have a dual function: they serve both as shelves and to support the building. The installation is as tall as a 9-story building and can store 9,300 containers for storing bulk products.
And it is not just this project that reinforces the importance that Tramontina gives to storage and logistics. Bertolini Armazenagem and Cassioli are responsible for creating the automated warehouse at the Tramontina TEEC manufacturing unit in the city of Carlos Barbosa/RS. The new structure, scheduled for the second half of 2021, will allow the company to continue being reference instorage by focusing on the agility with which products will be shipped and delivered to stores and other factories.
