How to optimize expenses by implementing the intralogistics process

  • Published in: 05/08/2022

They say that investing in an intralogistics project is expensive โ€” but that is not true. In fact, the opposite is what causes losses: the lack of control over logistics planning results in unnecessary expenditure of resources.

It is necessary to use techniques for logistics cost optimization, and thus protect the company's financial health.

Why invest in intralogistics?

According to the Dom Cabral Foundation (FDC), in 2020, logistics costs in Brazil increased by 42% within the industrial sector. This meant an increase of R$$ 79 billion in logistics expenses alone in the first five months of the year.

Of course we cannot ignore the effect of COVID-19 on statistics, but this reflects the need for optimization of logistics costs. This way, companies can better control their processes and, in times of crisis, suffer less impacts.

Other benefits of intralogistics include:

โ€“ Cost reduction;

โ€“ Greater competitiveness;

โ€“ Increased productivity.

How to optimize logistics costs

As we saw in the previous topic, bringing the concept of intralogistics into your warehouse brings a series of benefits. But to ensure the logistics cost optimization, you must follow some guidelines:

Start with strategic planning

It sounds clichรฉ, but it's true: before understanding how intralogistics will benefit your warehouse, you need to know what the main processes and expenses are. At these times, managers need to account for the amount dedicated to storage, losses and damages, transportation (freight and gasoline) and maintenance.

Knowing where most of your budget goes is the first step to promoting optimization of logistics costs. Without this vision, it is difficult to know which areas consume the most resources, and what to do to reverse this scenario.

Use good storage solutions

Another way to reduce intralogistics costs is by choosing suitable solutions for product storage. Remember that cheap can be expensive and it is recommended to choose suppliers with a reliable track record to facilitate the process.

Bertolini Sistemas de Armazenagem, for example, is a reference in South America in its segment. In the market since 1984, the company develops modern and innovative systems for storage and movement of materials for various market niches and types of stocks and Distribution Centers.

Furthermore, for the logistics cost optimization, it is not enough to have good solutions. The space must be used in the best possible way, facilitating the movement of employees and machines.

Invest in automation

One of the biggest lessons from the pandemic for industry concerns automation. This is a trend that is here to stay, as 361% of global companies are investing in new industrial automation technologies for the post-COVID period.

The use of robots and Artificial Intelligence promotes logistics cost optimization โ€” and without causing mass layoffs. After all, the implementation of robotics means that employees no longer have to perform repetitive and dangerous tasks, and instead work on solutions that require more skill and innovative thinking.

With this article, we hope you have understood that the logistics cost optimization is essential to ensure the company's financial health. And that's not all: intralogistics controls the operational flow and promotes good working conditions. In other words, everyone wins!
