In a universe of 117 thousand companies in the country, only 15.9 thousand have invested in environmental sustainability in recent years. This corresponds to 33.6% of organizations and shows that there is still a long way to go. The data is from Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and were collected between 2015 and 2017.
The same survey showed that the main motivation is improvement of institutional reputation, being cited by 59.4% of those interviewed. Another 54.3% said that the investments were focused on adapting to codes of good environmental practices. Only 11.2% of the businesses stated that they had had some type of government support for this.
Including sustainability in the organizational dictionary is very important, especially in Brazil, known worldwide for its rich biodiversity. Being aware of this issue and practicing this mindset in the day-to-day running of companies only brings benefits, especially in the relationship with customers, who prefer companies with purposes aligned with their values.
Businesses that apply good environmental practices become competitive and respected. However, for this to actually happen, a assertive sustainable culture, with the participation of all sectors of the organization. With logistics, it is no different.
Logistics refers to the storage, distribution and transportation of inputs and goods. When sustainability is present in this process, there is optimization of available resources, reduction of material waste, reduction of polluting gases in the atmosphere and employee well-being.
These environmental care actions should start with inventory management. Within warehouses, companies need to adopt the correct storage of products. In this sense, they avoid waste, do not compromise product quality and optimize the working time of their teams. When your business deals with perishable products, these precautions need to be redoubled.
